Today, many know Flex Alexander as the star of OWN’s reality TV show, Flex & Shanice or the host of Urban Movie Channel’s original series Lawd Have Mercy. But what most do not know is that Alexander put in work and paid many dues to make a name for himself.

Early in his career, while dancing in New York City clubs, he earned the nickname “Flex” due to his acrobatic ability. He was soon discovered by DJ Spindarella and eventually hit the road to tour with rap trio Salt-n-Pepa’s dance troupe, however his dance resume didn’t stop there. He would go on to choreograph for Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah.

After dancing around the world, he decided to share his comedic side in stand-up comedy in 1989 and quickly became a regular portrayed on the hit TV comedy series Uptown Comedy Club.

The multi-talented entertainer would then turn to acting where he made his film debut in the 1992 movie Juice. From film he would crossover to television where the ABC sitcom Where I Live would be his first television role that would open doors for him to star on other TV favorites as Sister, Sister, The Cosby Mysteries, Homeboys in Outer Space, Total Security, Brooklyn South, The Parker’s, UPN’s sitcom, Girlfriends, and would later successfully create, produce, and act in the sitcom One on One earning him an NAACP Image Award as well as two BET Comedy Awards. In addition, he starred on CBS’s Blue Bloods with Donnie Wahlberg and Tom Selleck, CSI Miami, HBO’s Masters of Sex, FOX’s Lucifer, and BET’s Single Ladies. He also earned an NAACP Image Award nomination for the VH! biopic Man In the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Story starring as Michael Jackson.

Later, Alexander would go back to the big screen and star in films such as The Hills Have Eyes 2 starring Michael McMillian, Jacob Vargas, and Jessica Stroup, the teen romantic comedy film She’s All That starring Freddie Prinze, Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook, Paul Walker and Matthew Lillard, Snakes On a Plane starring Samuel L. Jackson; Poor Boy’s Game, and Backroom Bodega Boyz.

Alexander married Grammy® nominated R&B singer Shanice Wilson in 2000 on Valentine’s Day. They have two children: daughter Imani Shekinah Alexander-Knox, produced in 2001, and son Elijah Alexander-Knox, produced in 2004.
